(This took like a year. I have no excuse. Sorry Anon!)
The Good: Sayumi’s dress fits her so well! It’s the perfect mix of everything Sayumi: pink, cutesy, and sexy (showin’ some leg there). Aika’s dress also fits her personality pretty well. At that time, she was the youngest in the group, so some features make her seem younger - the bow on the front and the empire waist to name a few. The length looks very high school dance, making it seem more age appropriate, but the beading, headpiece, and details on the shoulder make it seem more cohesive with the more mature dresses of some of the other girls. Risa’s dress is also very age appropriate, and she looks lovely in the shot I’ve provided (more on that later). Linlin’s dress may look a little young for her, but I think it suits her personality really well! She looks like an anime idol in that dress, and we all know how much she loves her cosplay. The top of Ai’s dress is also beautiful and intricate. It looks very good on her, as if it just fits. Although it’s a deviation from her normal style, it looks good on her. The color of Reina’s dress looks great with her hair color at the time. Junjun’s skirt is really pretty. The color looks good for her, and the skirt is a perfect mix of elegant and sexy: it really shows off her great legs.
The Bad: Although the color of Reina’s dress looks good, the dress itself does not. When I first saw the PV, I sat confused at Reina’s dress. In fact, I questioned if that even was Reina. The dress just doesn’t suit her personality. The color is too light and young; the dress looks too princessy and poofy for her. As someone with a tough Yankee or rock star character, a dress like this is too far of a stretch. Ai is a kind of chameleon - put her in anything and it will fit her in some way - sexy, regal, boyish, etc. she’ll find a way to work it. Reina, on the other hand, has such a strong character that deviating from it just seems wrong. As for Sayumi, while her dress fits her character, it doesn’t fit her. It seems a little big through the corset portion, and the skirt looks a little too heavy and bulky. If they found a way to make the skirt more poofy like Reina’s or Linlin’s, but keep the same design, I’d like it more. Ai’s skirt is a mix of both. It looks a little heavy for the design, and it seems to be fake shredded for artsyness - which doesn’t really mix well with the clean and regal top of the dress. Eri and Aika’s skirts also seem very heavy for their design. While her skirt looks light and airy, I must mention the top of Junjun’s dress. It looks like the top of a sundress with a matching bandeau underneath. It’s a little plain for this set. Which I suppose is why they added that bow. The broach on the belt is also distracting because it looks pretty cheap - like something you’d find on a cheap prom or homecoming dress. And last, a nitpicky detail, but it’s ugly nonetheless - Aika has a short sleeve coming off the strap of her dress. While it’s hidden by the strands of beads for the most part, it’s pretty ugly and unnecessary. If those beads weren’t there to hide it, you would be seeing this in the next section.
The Ugly: Reina’s skirt is a loofah. Now don’t get me wrong - I like me some poof - but the way that her skirt has been gathered up makes it look like a loofah. Maybe the company wanted to save her money on bath goods? Eri’s dress is very awkwardly gathered, and the entire thing looks very heavy and bulky. It looks like fabric piled on top of fabric on top of fabric. I like the color on her, but it just looks like the dress is swallowing her whole! And those gloves are far from my cup of tea. And the red fake fur? What even is that? And Risa’s fur makes her dress look tacky, particularly when she does not position it as in the solo shot. In the solo shot, it helps to cover up the horrendously weird looking gathering on the chest. Now, from the group shot, it seems evident that this dress was made for someone with a bigger chest, and I think that’s were most of my problems with that portion of the dress come from. As for the skirt, it looks weird because of the gathering at the top. Even if she did have a larger chest, the skirt seems unfinished, and I have no idea what kind of hemline the designer was even going for here. I do think I understand why the designer added that ugly bow to the front of Junjun’s dress - it was simply far to plain otherwise. But that bow was not the best way to do it. Big bows over boobs are rarely if ever a good decision, and usually when they are a good decision, it’s on a dress from before 1900, so there’s that. The design of the bow is also very awkwardly padded and sewn on, so it looks like someone glued a decorative pillow in the shape of a bow to her chest. And then her head. Also, as a matter of personal preference, I don’t know how much I like the purple of the bow with the light purple of the rest of the dress. It looks like that bow came from another dress entirely. I don’t think it was wrong to make the top less boring, but this was the wrong way to do it.
Overall: 3.5/5 - A good idea, and a mostly good job of getting the right dress to the right girl, but there were some definite mistakes made.
Blood Alcohol Content: Not drunk for Aika, Linlin, Ai, and Junjun. Drunk enough to forget the girl’s size for Risa, Sayu, and Eri. And then they apparently got so drunk they forgot Reina’s idol persona. Or they just said “fuck it I wanna see pretty pretty magical fairy loofah princess Reina”
