Rival Survival Member Color Outfits

Note: I REALLY like all the Rival Survival costumes. I honestly think it was one of the best costumed tours in Morning Musume history, and simply one of the best. If you haven’t seen it, it’s up on YouTube. Go watch it!
The Good: This was one of the first sets based around member colors for Morning Musume, and I really appreciated it at the time. There’s no better way to connect with the audience than through member colors (since the fans usually wear their favorite members’ T-shirts), and these had the same pattern as the T-shirts the fans were wearing. They also popped on stage because of all the color. Aside from that, I really appreciate the little details on these - being military themed, they featured fake ammo belts, camo, and metal patches. Other details that stand out are the little member identifiers on the top: each has the girl’s first initial with her birth date, but it is typed in a font that fits with the theme of the costume and isn’t distracting.
The Bad: While overall, these are good costumes, but there’s also some things I really don’t like. Puff sleeves just don’t fit the look at all, and they’re featured on at least three of the costumes (Ai-Chan’s, Sayumi’s, and Linlin’s). And what’s up with Ai-chan’s half-skort type thing? I think it might fit better if the skirt part wasn’t SO much longer than her shorts. On Linlin and Aika it looks fine because the skirt isn’t twice as long as the shorts.
I’d also like to point out that velvet was used for parts of the skirts. Now, I’m not opposed to mixing and matching fabrics at all times, it’s a little odd looking to have printed fabric with sequin fabric and velvet. Just a thought. One final point about velvet, though: it’s really really hot to wear on stage because it’s really thick. They must have been sweating a ton out there!
The Ugly: —-
Overall: 4/5 There are some choices that can be improved, but there’s nothing offensively bad about these.
How Drunk Were They? Sober. Although, giving idols “ammo” belts is a bold choice.
